Here's Johnny!....

So..... after a 3 year hiatus I am back on it!
With some new kit, a few upgrades and restored vim and vigour I recently jumped at the chance to photograph NGC7000 - North America Nebula in Cygnus.

Two of the upgrades were a CLS clip-in filter (to combat light pollution) and a field flattener (to reverse the effects of the lens curvature on the outer edges of the image - makes stars look "dragged").

It has also got to be said that I have also upgraded my knowledge of processing using Deep Sky Stacker (DSS) and Adobe Photoshop.
This in no small part was down to the excellent tutorials by YouTube Astrophotographer Trevor Jones.
In fact the sheer amount of stuff Trevor does is truly inspiring from his backyard in Ontario, Canada.

(Check his stuff out from the link on the right as AstroBackyard.)

I have also been using a great phone app. for getting a better polar alignment - namely SynscanInit.

So that's about it for now. May we all have great star gazing weather and enjoy the season.

As always, clear skies.
MJ
